I had an incredible time in Riviera Maya Mexico. Scott and I decided to go back together for a romantic, adventurous getaway.

I wanted to compile a list of my top Riviera Maya experiences. Instead of just talking about it, I decided to share with you some photos of my favourite things. These photos will take you to the Yucatan Peninsula, where you can smell, taste and feel the beauty.

Cenotes, Underground Rivers, and Caves

According to my experience, water can be found if you dig enough in Riviera Maya. This is just one example of the many options available for swimming in cenotes or underground rivers.

In one day, I was capable of rappelling into a cenote and swimming in Yaxmuul’s underground pool. I also managed to zip-line into a cave with water, and snorkel in an underground river with Alltournative tour.

Just as I thought I had seen it all we visited Rio Secreto in Playa Del Carmen two days later. We explored caves only lit from our headlamps, and we swam through some of the most clear water I have ever seen.

Community Tours introduced me to the area. They are committed to sustainable development and creating jobs for the residents of the communities of Punta Alle, Muyil, and Chumpon.

The tour included a boat ride through Sian Ka’an Reserve, floating down the freshwater canal on life jackets (the coolest lazy water experience), a walk through Muyil Archaeological Site, and lunch at home.
